Cynthia Blackwell is a powerhouse networker, influencer, author, and sales guru, but most importantly she’s a friend, mother, and wife. With an energy and enthusiasm level possessed by few, Cynthia sparks life into audiences with real-life business solutions and a lot of laughter. Before striking out on her own, Cynthia was Vice President and Partner of a boutique information technology company and Regional Director of Deltacom, a telecommunications provider. Cynthia gave us the inside scoop on her new book, The Magical Power of 3, and the transformational insights covered.
The Magical Power of 3 is all about leveraging the number three to create a roadmap to success, wealth, and happiness. While anyone could benefit from reading the book, I had three specific types of people in mind when I wrote it. The first person is anyone responsible for driving sales at a company. The second is anyone in leadership at a company. And the third is an entrepreneur or small business owner. It all starts with gaining a better understanding of yourself using the DISC (Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, Compliance) personality assessment. DISC helps paint a picture of who you are, who you get along with the best, and who you connect with. Then we narrow our focus to three areas that provide the maximum return on your time.
I like to say I received my Ph.D. in raising children. I learned all about sales tactics, handling objections, negotiating, leadership, and more from raising 6 children and applying those principles in other areas of my life. What I found is those skills applied equally as well in business, building teams, leading people, or helping people find their destiny elsewhere.
When I’m working with salespeople, I stress the importance of self-awareness. When you know who you are and the personalities you connect with the best, you will find tremendous success. The next area is to ensure you have the proper structure in place so you don’t waste time. Wasted time equals lost opportunities, revenue, and commissions. The last area we focus on is understanding your fears. Maybe it’s the fear of failure, giving the wrong answer, or even fear of success but fear paralyzes us and stops us dead in our tracks.
I work with clients one-on-one or in a classroom-style setting for groups. Either way, I start by having people complete the DISC personality test so that together we can get to know them on a deeper level. Then we spend time defining what is important to them both personally and professionally. The balance between personal and professional goals is crucial because there is no such thing as being unhappy at work and being happy at home. We help people identify what success looks like and how they can get there.
Leveraging technology in your business is a game-changer when it comes to creating the structure needed to succeed. Technology allows you to automate tasks so you have the freedom to focus on the real priorities in the business. When you have all your customer information and interactions in one place, productivity increases and you can provide a better customer experience.
